Multi-hyphenate Tracie Morris is a poet, theorist, vocalist, performance artist and multidisciplinary non-profit consultant. Emerging in the avant-garde music, poetry and slam scenes, Tracie went from outside artist to deep inside academia earning multiple degrees, certificates and distinguished Professorships. In 2026, she returned to full-time art practice in Brooklyn, New York.


Tracie has written 10 books of creative writing, has recorded on many albums in a variety of musical genres, and has performed, researched and presented her work in 40+ countries. Her academic appointments include the Iowa Writers' Workshop (Professor), Brown University. (Visiting Professor) and fellowships at Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania.


Her awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship in Poetry, a Creative Capital Fellowship in Performance, installations at the Whitney Biennial and a fellowship in poetry from the New York Foundation for the Arts. She has been designated a "Master Artist" by the Atlantic Center for the Arts.


An in-demand editor and jurist for prestigious art awards, Tracie has served on several Boards of Trustees.
